Wednesday, October 28th, starting at 5:30 pm. Margeaux Supper Parlor, Cambridge. Adults-only event. Meet the Croatian-American author Natalie Kikic as she introduces her book The Haunting of Lavender House, published by Park Row, HarperCollins. The genre is Gothic Romance, so the restaurant will be fully decorated in the haunted theme and will prepare for us Croatian- inspired menu. Tickets will need to be reserved, and the link to register will be shared in a week.
Here is what Natalie, a new member of our community, says about her book. The Haunting of Lavender House is heavily inspired by my experience as a daughter of Croatian immigrants and Croatian folklore. The story is set on a fictional Croatian island named Tolba, which is inspired by my dad’s home island of Olib and Hvar, famous for lavender production. The protagonist, Petra, is Croatian American like me, and throughout the story, she hopes to connect with her Croatian heritage. I also researched and incorporated Croatian folklore into the haunting elements of the story. I believe my novel is the first Gothic novel set in Croatia published in English and is a great way for readers to connect with Croatian culture.
